Karel Demel was born in Prague on 28 February 1942.
He studied tuba, double bass and trombone at the Prague Conservatory and then at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He is an excellent draughtsman and one of the most important Czech graphic artists of his generation. The main inspiration for his work is music and poetry. He uses a combination of different techniques such as drypoint, engraving, etching and aquatint.
Karel Demel died on 5 June 2024 in Prague.
