Biography

Jiří Anderle attended the Academy of Creative Arts in Prague, where he studied painting under Professor A. Pelc and graphic art under Professor Silovský. He graduated in 1961. The experience which he gained during his cooperation which the Black Theatre of Jirí Srnec had a fundamental influence on his work. He travelled with the Black Theatre through Europe for eight years and as a mime appeared at a number of well-known theatres. He sees life and the world as a big stage - Theatrum mundi. He has exhibited his works at hundreds solo and group exhibitions. He has won many prizes at international biennials (among others the Ljubljana Grand Prix in 1981) and in 1982 and 1984 his works were exhibited in the Central Exposition of the Biennial di Venezia. He is represented in leading world collections and museums (the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the George Pompidou Centre in Paris, etc.). From 1969 to 1973 he taught at the studios of Professor J. Trnka and Z. Sklenár at the Academy of Applied Art in Prague and in 1986 at the Summer Academy in Salzburg.
