PhDr. Ing. Zdeněk Lyčka studied systems engineering in Ostrava and modern philology (Danish, English) at Charles University. After the Velvet Revolution, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed the Czech Centre in Stockholm, and served as ambassador to Denmark from 2008 to 2013. Until 2016, he directed the Czech Centres. He translates Nordic and Anglo-American literature and writes books. He received a creative award within the Josef Jungmann Prize for his translation of Greenlandic myths and legends from Danish into Czech. He has published dozens of articles on Nordic culture. In his free time, he enjoys cross-country skiing and kayaking. He has completed the Vasaloppet in Sweden fourteen times and kayaked down seven European rivers.
